Setting Up Automatic Sync
Configure automatic synchronization to keep your files up-to-date across all your devices without manual intervention.
How Synchronization Works
Felicloud uses two-way synchronization, which means:
- Changes sync everywhere: Edit a file on one device, it updates on all devices
- Works offline: Changes are queued and synced when you reconnect
- Conflict handling: If the same file is edited in two places, both versions are kept
- Selective sync: Choose which folders to sync to each device
Real-time sync: The desktop and mobile apps sync changes within seconds of detecting them.
Desktop Sync Setup
1. Install the Desktop App
If you haven't already, install the desktop app and connect it to your Felicloud account.
2. Choose What to Sync
During initial setup, you can choose to sync:
- Everything: Sync your entire cloud storage (requires enough local disk space)
- Selective folders: Choose specific folders to keep synced locally
3. Configure Sync Settings
Right-click the app icon in your system tray and open Settings:
- General: Launch at startup, notifications, bandwidth limits
- Account: Add additional accounts, manage sync folders
- Network: Proxy settings, bandwidth throttling
Selective Sync
Don't have enough disk space? Use selective sync to choose which folders to download:
1. Open Sync Settings
Click the app icon in your system tray, then click the three dots menu (⋯) next to your account, and select "Edit".
2. Choose Folders
Uncheck the folders you don't want synced locally. They'll remain in the cloud but won't take up space on this device.
3. Apply Changes
Click "Apply" to save your changes. Deselected folders will be removed from your local sync folder but remain safely stored in your Felicloud account.
Virtual Files (On-Demand Sync)
Save disk space while seeing all your files with Virtual Files:
What are Virtual Files?
Virtual files show all your cloud files in your local folder, but they're only downloaded when you open them. This lets you see and access everything without using disk space for files you rarely use.
1. Enable Virtual Files
In the desktop app settings, go to your account settings and enable "Use virtual files instead of downloading content immediately".
2. Understand the Icons
Look for these overlay icons on your files:
- Cloud icon: File is in the cloud only (virtual)
- Green checkmark: File is downloaded and available offline
- Sync arrows: File is currently syncing
3. Make Files Available Offline
Right-click any file or folder and select "Make always available locally" to download it permanently.
Mobile Sync Setup
Auto Upload for Photos
1. Open App Settings
In the Nextcloud mobile app, tap the menu icon and go to Settings → Auto upload.
2. Configure Auto Upload
Choose your preferences:
- Upload path: Where photos will be saved in your cloud
- WiFi only: Save mobile data by uploading only on WiFi
- Upload videos: Enable or disable video backup
- Use subfolders: Organize by year/month automatically
3. Select Source Folders
Choose which folders on your device to monitor for automatic upload (Camera, Screenshots, WhatsApp, etc.).
Sync Status and Monitoring
Keep track of your sync status:
Desktop App
- System tray icon shows overall status
- Click icon to see recent activity
- View detailed sync log in settings
Mobile App
- Notification shows upload progress
- Activity tab shows recent syncs
- Transfers tab shows pending uploads
Bandwidth Management
Control how much bandwidth Felicloud uses:
Desktop Bandwidth Settings
Go to Settings → Network to configure:
- Limit download speed (KB/s)
- Limit upload speed (KB/s)
- No limit / Automatic / Manual limits
