Desktop App Configuration

Configure the Felicloud desktop client for optimal performance and customize sync settings to fit your workflow.

Accessing Settings

1. Open the Desktop App

Click the Felicloud icon in your system tray (Windows) or menu bar (macOS/Linux).

2. Open Settings

Click the three dots (⋯) or gear icon, then select "Settings".

General Settings

Launch at Startup

Enable this to automatically start Felicloud when you log into your computer. Recommended for continuous sync.

Show Desktop Notifications

Get notified when files sync, when there are conflicts, or when errors occur.

Language

Change the app language. Requires restart to take effect.

Sync Folder Location

By default, your Felicloud folder is created in your home directory. You can change this:

1. Remove Existing Connection

In Settings → Account, click "Remove" next to your account (don't worry, this doesn't delete your cloud files).

2. Add Account Again

Click "Add account" and log in again.

3. Choose New Location

During setup, click "Choose folder" to select a different location for your sync folder.

WarningMoving the sync folder will re-download all your files to the new location. Make sure you have enough disk space.

Selective Sync

Selective sync lets you choose which folders to sync locally, saving disk space:

1. Open Sync Settings

Go to Settings → Account → Click the folder icon next to your account.

2. Choose Folders

Uncheck folders you don't want synced locally. These remain in the cloud but won't take up local disk space.

3. Apply Changes

Click "Apply". Unchecked folders will be removed from your local disk (but stay in the cloud).

TipUse selective sync to keep large archive folders in the cloud only while keeping everyday files synced locally.

Virtual Files (On-Demand)

Virtual files show all your cloud files without downloading them. Files are downloaded only when opened:

How Virtual Files Work

  • Cloud-only files show a cloud icon
  • Double-click to download and open
  • Right-click → "Make available offline" to always keep locally
  • Right-click → "Free up local space" to remove local copy

1. Enable Virtual Files

Go to Settings → Account → Check "Use virtual files" (Windows/macOS only).

Good to knowVirtual files require Windows 10+ or macOS 12+. On Linux, use selective sync instead.

Bandwidth Settings

Limit sync speeds to avoid saturating your internet connection:

Download Limit

Set maximum download speed in KB/s. Set to 0 for unlimited.

Upload Limit

Set maximum upload speed in KB/s. Useful if uploads slow down your connection.

TipIf you have slow internet, set upload limits during work hours and remove them at night.

Ignored Files

Some files are automatically ignored and won't sync:

  • • .DS_Store (macOS)
  • • Thumbs.db (Windows)
  • • *~ (temporary files)
  • • *.part (partial downloads)
  • • .sync_*.db (sync databases)

You can add custom ignore patterns in Settings → Advanced → Edit ignored files.

Proxy Settings

If your network requires a proxy:

1. Open Network Settings

Go to Settings → Network.

2. Configure Proxy

Choose from:

  • No proxy: Direct connection
  • System proxy: Use your OS proxy settings
  • Manual: Enter proxy server, port, and credentials

Activity Log

View sync activity and troubleshoot issues:

  • Click the Felicloud icon → "Open log" to see recent activity
  • Settings → Advanced → "Open log folder" for detailed logs
  • Use logs when contacting support for help
TipThe activity log shows the last 1000 sync events. Older events are in the log files.

Multiple Accounts

You can add multiple Felicloud accounts:

1. Add Another Account

Go to Settings → Account → "Add account".

2. Choose Separate Folder

Each account needs its own sync folder. Choose a different location for each.

Good to knowEach account syncs independently. You can have different selective sync settings for each.
